  • Instrumental in shaping the National Bamboo Mission and working to classify bamboo outside the restricted “tree” category, easing cultivation and trade

  • Sponsors scientific research and collects data on bamboo farming, processing, and utilization
  • Hosts and sponsors forums like seminars, webinars, workshops, and “C4C Conversations” to share expertise with farmers, entrepreneurs, and architects.
  1. Mainstreaming in Construction & Design
  • In 2021, signed an MOU with the Council of Architecture to include bamboo in curricula and promote it as a certified building material through training and student projects.
  • Supports and celebrates bamboo-based architectural and design innovations—such as eco-structures, joinery techniques, and student competitions.

Awareness creation

Meetings And Awareness Programs: The Chairman, BSI has attended the farmers awareness program on 19.01.2025 at Belthangady Project area.

On 28.05.2025, a farmers’ awareness program and technical training workshop on bamboo planting was held for farmers of Belthangady and Guruvanakere taluks. Shri Manoj Meenajes, Regional Director of the Agriculture Division, inaugurated the event, highlighting the benefits and implementation of the bamboo initiative. BSI Executive Director K. N. Murthy shared details on bamboo cultivation, required documentation, and available incentives. Raju Shetty from the Rubber Society, Belthangady, also offered guidance on rubber farming. The event saw active participation from officials including Forest Officer Thyagaraj, Planning Officers Yashodhara, Ashok, Balakrishna, and Maruti, and Agriculture Supervisors Ramkumar and Krishna, with over 50 farmers attending and gaining valuable insights.

Guidance on planting and utilisation

The Bamboo Society of India (BSI) offers guidance on bamboo planting and utilization, focusing on sustainable practices and economic benefits. BSI encourages bamboo plantation on non-forest lands to supplement farm income, enhance climate resilience, and provide raw materials for industries. They emphasize the importance of selecting appropriate species based on intended use (e.g., construction, crafts) and local conditions. BSI also promotes value addition and skill development to create a complete bamboo value chain. 

Supply of seed & seedlings

Bamboo Society of India Procure various available Bamboo Seeds from the flowered areas of India and supplied to various customers like Forest Department, Bamboo Farmers, NGOs etc.,

Bamboo Society of India also procure and supply the various bamboo seedlings / wildlings from different nurseries to the beneficiaries
